Margo Price has a new album, Kesha hits the road with Scissor Sisters and more movies, shows and books for you to dig into this summer.
Margo Price – Hard Headed Woman
Margo Price—former BUST covergirl and country music’s rebel girl—is blessing us with a new album, Hard Headed Woman, on Aug 29. The lead single, “Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down,” has that classic country twang (we love a reference to Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale) and is also inspired by when Kris Kristofferson whispered those words to Sinéad O’Connor when she was booed onstage at a Bob Dylan anniversary concert. Grab your cowboy hat and head over to margoprice.net for details.

Outrageous on Britbox
This six-part drama follows the true story of the Mitford sisters, who were famous for their scandalous lives and the political views that tore them apart during the 1930s, with one sister involved with Hitler (which caused a massive break in the family). Based on Mary Lovell’s biography, The Mitford Girls, this is the story of a family that took very opposite and often dangerous paths, where bonds were broken, and there was political scandal after scandal. It all starts to unravel June 18.

It’s Dorothy at Tribeca Film Fest
This film features Ashanti, Fairuza Balk, Amber Ruffin, John Waters, Lena Waithe, Margaret Cho, Roxane Gay, Rufus Wainwright, and so many more—all talking about how the legendary character of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz has impacted them. There is a montage of some of the most famous versions of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and you will want to YouTube the entire Patti LaBelle version because her and her wig are doing the most. Dorothy was not just a character; she became iconic for so many cultures and for so many reasons. From the madness of Return to Oz, the Muppet version with Ashanti, The Wiz with Diana Ross, the classic with Judy Garland, or Wicked with Ariana Grande, Dorothy Gale is a timeless symbol of hope. The film premiers at the Tribeca Film Fest; check out different-places.com/dorothy for screenings near you.
Autumn Breon – Dignity Denied
L.A.-based artist Autumn Breon payed tribute to Adriana Smith with her recent performance piece. Smith was declared brain dead while nine weeks pregnant, and due to Georgia’s fucked-up six-week abortion ban her body was kept on life support since Febuary against her family’s wishes until doctors deem the fetus was viable. For one hour each day Breon laid in a public space with sandbags added weekly to symbolize the weight and burden on Smith’s body. In June the baby was delivered prematurely and passed away. You can follow Breon’s art and her tribute to Smith on her Instagram: @autumnbreon.
Ethel Cain – Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You
Hayden Anhedönia aka Ethel Cain is back with their highly anticipated sophomore album, which drops August 8, and she will be touring North America and Europe in support of the album. The tour is sure to sell out, so get over to daughtersofcain.com immediately if you want to score a seat.
Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf
Munroe Bergdorf is a Black trans activist, author, and model. This documentary takes a look at the toll that speaking up for a community takes on a person. Bergdorf was the first trans model in the U.K. for L’Oréal and lost the gig because she spoke out about racism. The doc shows how, in the face of death threats and public criticism, those that make change have to keep up the fight even when their mental health is struggling. Support the strong ones July 15 when Love & Rage hits streaming.
