This is a podcast for all my cinephile feminists. Hosted by the founder and editor of Indiewire’s Women and Hollywood blog, Melissa Silverstein, this is a brass tacks podcast featuring interviews with female producers, directors, writers and other industry folks.
Don’t expect movie reviews or starlets. Instead, enjoy weekly conversations about the specific difficulties and successes women find in contemporary filmmaking. Biased hiring practices and bogus financial prejudices come up occasionally…as do insightful anecdotes that resonate beyond the parameters of the filmmaking work space. Artistic processes are also probed — refreshing since women in Hollywood are too often only interviewed about their domestic routines rather than their professional prowess.
In the young podcast’s first five episodes, E-Team director Kate Chevigny, Accused director Paula van der Oest, and Jill Pantozzi, editor at geek blog The Mary Sue, each offer an inside perspective on recent projects and the state of gender (in)equality in Hollywood.
In the latest episode, Hunger Games producer Nina Jacobson discusses the global obsession with the girl on fire and how Katniss has become an important symbol for empowerment movements. She also delves into her own hiring practices and why the directors of the girl-powered dystopian trilogy were men. Listen below!
Episodes are released about once a week and all episodes are available on soundcloud and on iTunes. Check them out today!
