Web series know-it-alls Comedy TV is Dead recently compiled a list of hilarious women in the genre. Over the past few years, web series have skyrocketed in popularity and it just so happens that women are the creative force behind many of the hits.
Check out our top picks!
1.) L.A. Girls, produced by Tiffany Ariany, is a spoof of HBO’s infamous Girls. L.A. Girls follows Hannah on her quest to become a successful actress in Los Angeles. Her life changes abruptly when her parents stop supporting her financially. Soon after, she discovers she has rabies and tracks down her famous ex-boyfriend to confront him about her diagnosis. Supported by an entertaining cast, including Hannah’s adult industry “extra” boyfriend, L.A. Girls will guarantee serious case of the giggles.
2.) Hipsterhood is a series about the blossoming relationship between two (you guessed it) hipsters living in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. The pair meets at their local supermarket, mulling over which cereal is the least mainstream. The remaining episodes chronicle the two as they run into each other at various locations throughout the neighborhood. Naturally, hilarity ensues. The series was written, directed, and produced by Shilpi Roy.
3.) Veronica Osorio stars as Kate in Kate’s Craft Corner. Kate, affectionately referred to as “Defecate” by her mother, is a bubbly artist who wants to help spread cheer with her DIY talents. Her craft lessons contain “helpful” hints (“the best way to differentiate between salt and sugar is to pour it on your food and taste it”) and sad stories about her mother’s disappointment. Kate’s cheery demeanor might drive you a little crazy, but it’s totally worth it.
4.) Ingrid Jungermann’s F to 7th tackles oft-neglected issues such as queer politics and classism with witty humor and relatable characters. The series follows Ingrid through dog parks, awkward sexual encounters, and uncomfortable conversations with family members about “how gay sex works.” If this sounds exactly like what your life has been missing, welcome to the club.
5.) Chilltown TV may be the funniest show you watch today…or, you know, ever. The show follows several characters, all of whom are connected through hip-hop. A woman of many talents, Lessa Dean produces, casts, directs, edits, animates, and acts in every episode. Talk about work ethic!
