by Madison N Nunes

From Rand Paul to plus sized dancers, we’ve got it all in this week’s round up of feminist news stories. We know you’ve been busy running the world (or at least fighting off the patriarchy), so go ahead and take a breather. Grab a coffee, check out this blog post, and start your glorious weekend off right.

Meryl Streep Just Started A Screenwiring Lab For Hollywood Lepers (Women Over 40)

Meryl Streep is taking yet another step on the path of being absolutely amazing by funding a screenwriters lab for female writers over 40. And since Hollywood needs to work on its gender balance, we think this is a really good thing. The group, organized by the female filmmaker group Iris, will be run by New York Women In Film and Television. The lab is seeking submissions from all racial, socioeconomic, and cultural groups. Full submission information can be found on the NYWIFT web page

“When My Rapist Showed Up Under the ‘People you May Know’ Tab”

We’ve all seen Facebook trying to prompt us to make more friends (a.k.a the ‘People You May Know’ tab), but Kevin Kantor wasn’t just prompted to make new friends and keep the old—his suggested list included his rapist. Kantor decided to face his tormentors—Facebook and his rapist—by performing spoken word at CUPSI this year. As he pours his soul out, Kevin brings to light some serious questions about our culture and how we look at rapists.

Rand Paul Says a Female President Would Be NDB, Is Ignoramus

Rand Paul said that the election of a female president would not be a huge achievement at all. You know, because women are already kicking so much ass that there’s no need to acknowledge the adversity they face. As much as we  wish we could follow that with an “April Fools,” that time has sadly passed. And wait, there’s more! Interviewed Saturday by the Associated Press, Paul addressed how he sees women’s position in politics and society evolving. According to him, women are already “involved at every level and in everything now.” So the votes are in: Rand Paul is fueled by his own caveman logic and idiotic wisdom. Dude, we are really going to need you to cut this out.

The Gorgeous Portraits of Plus Size Dancers That Prove Skill Has No Set Shape

Photographer Toby Burrows didn’t set out to make a statement with his photo series about plus sized dancers, but what’s better than a happy accident? While focusing on the beauty of each body, Burrows also explores the discrimination and censorship applied to bodies deemed “fat,” “big,” or “plus-sized” by societal standards.

Watch OG Hillary Clinton Defend Reproductive Rights & Family Planning

In this C-Span footage from 2009, Hillary Clinton touches on the work she did as first lady and the sorry state of women’s healthcare in America. That isn’t all though. Her rebuttal to Christopher Smith’s question about the role of the government in women’s care shows passion and guts. In the video she says “We are now an administration that will protect the rights of women including their rights to reproductive healthcare… Keeping women and men in ignorance and denied the access to services actually increases the rate of abortion.” We agree, Hillary.
