There’s nothing like a slideshow to get a girl excited about feminism. While that sounds like the single most sarcastic sentence in the history of the world, I promise it was meant in earnest.
Refinery 29 just released a slideshow, “17 Feminists of the Future,” that showcases some of the women (& men!) who are currently working tirelessly to better the future for women everywhere.
Included on the list are familiar names like Sheryl Sandberg, Melinda Gates, Tavi Gevinson, and Malala Yousafzai. Also featured are some individuals you may not have expected, like Andrew Cuomo, and a few more of whom I (shamefully) hadn’t heard, but who I am very excited to watch them take the world by storm.
It’s liberating to see so much passion for the same cause coming from so many angles,whether it is Tig Notaro’s comedy, Madison Young’s sex positive and female empowering pornography, Laverne Cox’s focus on transgender issues in television, or Zhara Ali’s book Feminisim and Islam, a text which challenges the idea that women’s rights and the beliefs of Islam cannot coexist.
