The documentary I've been dying to see since I first saw the trailer is finally premiering on TV tonight! Do not miss Miss Representation by Jennifer Siebel Newsom; it's sure to be a powerful film about modern women's depictions in the media.
This is not just a film, it's the catalyst to a growing movement and a call to challenge the media. They've launched numerous social change campaigns already including, Represent Us, where anyone can post a video about how they wish to be represented in the media. There's also a curriculum about media literacy that teachers can purchase, as well as a Sexy or Sexism? site where they monitor current TV shows' depictions of what's considered sexy.
Miss Representation airs tonight at 9pm on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). If you don't have cable or the Oprah channel, there are numerous screenings happening or you can organize your own screening by filling out the form on their website. Once you've seen the film, spread the word!
