Looking for a way to learn more about feminism or immerse yourself in causes that matter to you? Soapbox Inc’s Feminist Boot Camp might be worth a look. Feminist Boot Camp is an intensive week-long program that is designed for young women, or anyone really, who is interested in meeting the movers and shakers of the modern feminist world. Created by Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner, the activists and authors of Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future, will also be guiding the urban feminist retreat.
Each day is different and will engage participants in a variety of activities from meeting with feminist organizations to learning about fundraising and grant making, or networking at a reproductive rights happy hour. The camp also includes a career day featuring advice from past participants and leading feminist professionals as well as a half-day internship with a feminist organization. In the past the camp has worked with organizations like: The Sex Workers Project, Bluestockings Bookstore, Equality Now, Girls Write Now, and Planned Parenthood NYC to name a few.
The approximate cost for the week long camp is $1,000 per student. That includes the program fee, hostel accommodations, a weekly metrocard, and daily lunches for most of the program days. In the past participants have been able to raise the funds for the program costs or get help from women’s studies programs, student service programs, or career service offices.
