This 3D Clitoris Is Heading To School

A 3D clitoris is heading to the market and it's not a sex toy. The world's first, anatomically correct 3D clitoris will be used for sex education in French schools, starting during primary school. While the states struggle to get basic sexual education for high school students, French schoolchildren will learn a detailed anatomy of the clitoris and its potential for sexual pleasure.

Sociomedical researcher Odile Fillod created a sculpture that will teach children (and adults too) that the clitoris and penis are anatomically the same. That both have crura (legs), bulbs, foreskin, and a head. The only difference really is that the erectile tissue for the clitoris is internal whereas for penis it is external.“It’s important that women have a mental image of what is actually happening in their body when they’re stimulated,” Fillod says per The Guardian.

I feel I could've benefited from learning about the clitoris's full potential. I was in the dark about how to masturbate as a teenager and I had many friends that expressed similar frustrations. Fillod hopes that the 3D clitoris will help improve education through reducing some of that ignorance, and hopefully lift shame from the body. “In understanding the key role of the clitoris, a woman can stop feeling shame, or [that she’s] abnormal if penile-vaginal intercourse doesn’t do the trick for her – given the anatomical data, that is the case for most women,” Fillod says per The Guardian.

This 3D clitoris will also help people without vaginas understand how important clitoris stimulation is for achieving orgasm. “It’s also vital to know that the equivalent of a penis in a woman is not a vagina, it’s her clitoris,” says Fillod. I wholeheartedly agree with the importance of stressing this. I have been with partners who didn't even attempt to touch me there!

This type of sexual education is revolutionary. It teaches children that every body  has equal sexual potential. It will help reduce sexual shame and instill in children that pleasure is healthy, normal and enjoyable. It also lays the groundwork for people with vaginas to develop sexual authority and power.
