Alexis Krauss, frontwoman for of-the-moment rockers Sleigh Bells, compiled some of her top musical picks for our April/May issue. Below are the tunes that make her tick.
“Genesis” by Grimes
“She’s already released two records, and I loved ‘Oblivion,’ the first single she put out, but I’m really into ‘Genesis.’ I’ve been listening to it pretty obsessively.”

“212” by Azealia Banks
“This is probably my song of the year, as far as being like, ‘Oh shit, I need to listen to that 20 more times, right now.’ I’m definitely looking forward to her record.”

“Coast to Coast” by Elliott Smith
“‘Coast to Coast’ is an insanely dramatic, haunting song from his last record, From a Basement on a Hill. Knowing what happened shortly after he recorded this makes it that much more intense.”

“Love Hurts” by the Everly Brothers
“Now I’m going way back. I’m obsessed with the Everly Brothers because they do so much with so little. They make every note and melody line and harmony line count. I hope one day to be as awesome as them.”

“I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
“This song is so immediate; it really pumps you up. It has so much attitude. It makes you wanna take over the world.”
