BUST darling and all around feminist badass Beth Ditto just released “Fire,” the first single from her upcoming album Fake Sugar. Due in June, this is her first full-length solo album and we couldn’t be more excited!
Combining an ebullient melodic drive with a melancholy croon, 'Fire' is pure magic. Last year Ditto told Pitchfork, “It’s gonna be my Southern record but not necessarily a country record.” The Southern inflection couldn’t be more on point, blending a soulful gospel quality with a catchy alt-country vibe that perfectly compliments her throaty singing style.
The album cover, also just released, is channeling a Stevie Nicks-meets-Mama Cass vibe that suggests a tonal departure from her long-term band Gossip.
