Goodbye Dr. Luke, Hello Kesha

The Wrap has reported that Sony will be dropping producer Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, a year ahead of his contract expiration. Gottwald, who denies the Wrap's reort, is accused of drugging and raping popstar Kesha while she was under his label, Kemosabe Records. It is unclear how Sony plans to break the deal since no conviction was made by the courts, but the how doesn’t really concern us.

After an emotionally tolling courtroom debate, which finally came to a close on February 19, Kesha was told she must continue working with Dr. Luke to finish out her six album contract. Fans of the popstar have been very vocal about the decision, taking the internet by storm with the hashtag #FreeKesha.

The decision from Sony comes after a petition created in 2015 on the site Care2 gained over 223,000 signatures from outraged fans. Support of Kesha has been overwhelming; fans flocked the courthouse on the final day of the trial in hopes to show just how important this decision would be to not only Kesha, but survivors of sexual assault all over the world.

Since the courts decision, Sony has been called on by fans and other artists to release Kesha from her contract; Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Adele have all gone on Twitter to call out Sony.

Even though the court system failed her, Kesha will finally be awarded the freedom she deserves to continue to create and release the music her fans have been waiting to hear.
