It seems like painfully uncomfortable celebrity interviews are becoming a major trend. This time, the interviewers out did themselves by managing to be both sexist and racist. Quite an accomplishment. The victims: Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara.
In a recent interview about the upcoming Fantastic Four film with the Rock 100.5 Morning show in Atlanta, the interviewers had a lot of trouble with the concept of Mara and Jordan playing siblings. One interviewer asked, “You’re white and you’re black. How does that happen?”
Jordan kept his cool like a pro and pointed out that families come in all different forms, and how they got together isn’t really that important. Jordan has apparently gotten quiet a bit of practice dealing with questions like this ever since it was announced that he would by playing the traditionally white superhero.
After finally letting go of the sibling question, the interviewers turned to the very important subject of Mara’s hair. One of the two men addressed the age-old question: Why would a hot girl like ever cut her hair so short? “You’re way, way hot. Why’d you cut the hair? Your hair was beautiful."
Mara calmly explained, “I cut my hair for a movie I just did. … I’m an actress, I have to be a chameleon.” The interviewer then expressed hope that she could grow it back for any sequels. Well that is the nature of hair…it tends to grow back.
As if his comments about her hair weren’t repulsive enough, the interviewer went even further by turning his attention to Mara’s toes: “I’m a toe guy, your toes are fine.” Duuuuude. Seriously? Ew.
These interview questions are completely indefensible, but that didn’t stop Rock 100.5 Morning host Jason Bailey from trying: “Look, not a huge fan of these controlled 5-7 minute interview junkets they run in the first place but I was curious about the brother and sister thing. You have a white sister and black brother wouldn’t you want to know how that happened? I did. The other Fantastic Four franchises explain the relationship so I figured with this new hipster version they’d have some different back-story. My partner’s (Southside Steve) conversation about Kate’s hair is something that came up while Michael B Jordan took a phone call so I think they were kind of just going back forth in a playful way. As for him complimenting her toes and why people are upset about that … sorry … no idea. Steve likes girl’s toes. People should be appreciative when they get complimented. Those that are upset on Twitter I guess don’t get enough of them. Who knows?”
Well that response confirmed all our suspicions. Those Rock 100.5 guys were just plain gross.
