There are 4 elements of the tarot: Fire (wands), air (swords), earth (pentacles, or coins), and water (cups). Each element is lauded over by a King and Queen, who represent the most righteous form, the pinnacle, of each element’s power. Kings are great and all, but yawn, patriarchy. The Queens of the tarot channel feminine energy and are known for approaching problems with intuition and inner strength, rather than the blunt force of the Kings.
In this new four-part weekly series, we feature one Tarot Kween each week with a corresponding playlist comprised of women and non-binary artists. You can use these playlists for your own tarot readings, or just to vibe on some glorious otherworldly femme energy.
QUEEN OF PENTACLES
My dear cottagecore babes, this is your ruler. Pentacles, or coins, are associated with the element of Earth. The Queen of Pentacles rules over the certain: death and taxes. She is our earth mother, and works to ensure all creatures of the earth prosper. She is the circle of life.
You can just as easily find this Queen squatting over a poop hole at a self-made campsite as she's admiring her fine jewels on a sailboat in Cabo. She is connected to all things tangible and material. She is one with nature and may visit you as a jackrabbit or garter snake; however, she’s also likely to visit you in the form of a more-than-cost-of-living raise at work. The Queen knows that her beloved children are made of stardust, just like her diamonds, and she nurtures both. She built your body and she finds every freckle, roll, and wrinkle beautiful. You are a work of earth art.
You channel the Queen of Pentacles when you build a DIY chicken coop. Pricked by a thorn? That’s your Queen reminding you that Earth is greater than your blood. Flush with cash? Thank the Queen for blessing you with earthly possessions. Sweet bud (or tomato) harvest? Your Queen has your back. Sing her praises when you squat your body weight. She gave you those damn quads.
This Queen relishes what she has. She is gracious and aware of her terrestrial blessings.
You may use this playlist to practice a fierce gratitude meditation, pumping yourself up with how damn awesome your life is. The Queen of Pentacles knows that love, care, and gratitude for your bounty is the surest way to bring greater bounty.
