Benchtime Jewelry Arts

Ruth Santana is a seasoned jeweler, designer, and educator whose work focuses on the visible shape and configuration of natural form and textures, bringing together parts or combinations of the very simple and unassuming to the intricate dimensions of forms from antiquity. Her mode of jewelry emphasizes the eclectic, experiential, and the power of the process of creation rather than the final result or outcome. She started as an autodidact who explored the arts and crafts, in general, to apply them in her practice as an occupational therapist working in the field of rehabilitation in the areas of physical disabilities and psychiatry with the adult and pediatric populations. As an occupational therapist, she developed a critical understanding of human occupation and its impact on health and well-being and intersected the arts, in particular, jewelry making as a multidimensional neurodevelopmental form and medium to engage her clients in rehabilitation.
