Ever wondered what it’s like to work in publishing? Come intern for BUST and experience the publishing world first hand. As an editorial intern at BUST, you’ll gain valuable knowledge and insight that’ll help you along the road to a career in journalism. We ask that interns commit to at least 3 weekdays for 3 months or 2 weekdays for 4 months (the hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.) All internships are remote, but you’ll have a chance to see the entire cycle of the making of an issue of the print magazine, from start to finish. The internship is unpaid, and you must be seeking college credit. There are also opportunities to attend shows and movie screenings for free, as well as the chance to get to know the BUST staff, and experience the behind-the-scenes world of a women’s magazine.
Here are just some of the tasks you’ll be working on as an editorial intern at BUST Magazine:
- You’ll be asked to proofread and fact check stories for the print magazine, and you’ll learn plenty about self-guided research. You’ll be a master at this by the time you leave us (which makes us sad just thinking about it).
- You’ll transcribe interviews, and in the process, learn more about the work of an interviewer and how they create and frame questions. You may be asked to assist at photo shoots, and see how they’re scheduled and executed.
- You’ll convert the print articles to digital blog posts. You will learn how to write social media blurbs and edit headlines to grab readers’ attention as well as how to format a post.
- You’ll be updating and optimizing old blog posts which will help you learn tricks to get more traffic for websites or blogs, as well as putting the archives up on the blog from our back issues.
- You’ll be putting episodes of the BUST Poptarts podcast on youtube.
