Oh Beyonce, you can do no wrong!
But are you a fierce feminist?
That's been hotly debated for a while now, and Ms. Magazine's new cover is adding fuel to the fire. Ms. has made Queen Bey covergirl for their upcoming Spring 2013 issue, with the headline “Beyonce’s Fierce Feminism.”
Disappointingly, it looks like they used a (relatively demure) stock photo, and Ms. has not interviewed the Queen herself. But the mere fact she is on Ms.’s cover proves her pulling-power and ability to get the sisterhood talking.
I can’t help but chuckle about Beyonce rocking the covers of both GQ (complete with some breast peeking out) and Ms. in a matter of months. There aren't too many people who could boast such far-reaching influence and interest. But such is the power of Beyonce.
It makes me think: what does Beyonce think about being both a feminist icon and a gal frequently criticized for not being feminist? In a recent interview with British Vogue, Beyonce (kind of) shed some light on the topic. “I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman."
So, what do you think about Beyonce gracing Ms.’s cover?
