It’s hard to believe that less than a century has gone by since the 19th amendment was passed into law. But 100 years ago, the women’s suffrage movement was still going strong in its pursuit of voting rights for women. Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary of the massive 1913 women’s suffrage parade in Washington D.C., which occurred the day before Woodrow Wilson's inauguration. The Atlantic has compiled some amazing images from that day, which saw 8,000 marchers convene for the cause. The parade turned chaotic and dangerous as it went on, and many marchers were mistreated by the crowd and ignored by the police. Though women didn’t get the vote for another seven years, the parade was a major news story and catalyst that led to important congressional hearings on the subject.
