Country music fans out there, here’s an event that benefits a great cause and promises to be memorable: the Jalopy Theatre and friends have organized a benefit for Brooklyn’s Red Hook community, which was severely damaged by hurricane Sandy. This show will benefit Restore Red Hook, which aims to raise funds to help the small businesses of Red Hook, Brooklyn reopen their doors as soon as possible after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
The evening kicks off with a square dance, hosted by NYC Barn Dance. Rosanne Cash (the late Johnny Cash’s eldest daughter) will headline the event, with many other acts lined up. Michael Buscemi will also screen his film "B61," named after the bus that runs through Red Hook.
Comedian Lizz Winstead, co-creator of the Daily Show, will open for Cash, a singer/songwriter/author who began her career in 1978. Cash has recorded eleven number one singles, and received eleven Grammy nominations (and one award) in the Country, Pop, Contemporary Folk and Americana categories.
