“Hey baby, what’s your sign?”

The answer to that question apparently just got a little bit more complicated.

Yesterday, FaceBook and Twitter feeds exploded with status updates along the lines of, “Wow! I’m actually a Leo! That makes SO MUCH SENSE!”, “There is just no way! I am such a Libra, how can I be a Virgo now?”, and, of course, “WTFBBQ IS AN OPHIUCHUS?!”

Most of the commotion stems from a report on an assertion from the Minnesota Planetarium Society that due to the shifts in the stars and the position of our planet, the dates of the corresponding zodiac signs have shifted as well. While yesterday’s NBC article asserting that Earth’s “equatorial alignment” has shifted sent many into a tizzy, for everyone backing this strange new thirteen-sign zodiac, there are just as many refuting it.

As CNN reports, those in the United States who have been using the Tropical/Western calendar should not fret, those dates remain the same. Other sources claim that the new system doesn’t apply to anyone born before 2009 anyway.

But let us not forget that having more than one zodiac is nothing new to rail about. After all, the Sidereal/Hindu duration is different than the Tropical, and all hell break loose when you add the Chinese zodiac to the equation, and let us not forget that Japan follows blood type.

Others say, “Well, we all know what happened with the tower, so what makes us think that the Babylonians could build a correct astrological system?”

In the end it all boils down to what you believe or want to believe.
