Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell has changed his stance on the recent controversial bill that would have required women getting abortions to first have a transvaginal ultrasound.
McDonnell must have felt the heat from opponents after he was sent a petition containing over 33,000 signatures urging him to veto the bill.
“Mandating an invasive procedure in order to give informed consent is not a proper role for the state,” said McDonnell according to Reuters. "I am requesting that the General Assembly amend this bill to explicitly state that no woman in Virginia will have to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound involuntarily."
Uh ya think? The state has no right to intrude in the personal affairs of anyone, let alone when it comes to women’s vaginas.
The new amended bill was passed by the House of Delegates, but it is only a minor victory as the Senate has yet to vote on it and there's a whole slew of anti-choice bills in the pipe. Looks like we still have a long way to go to protect reproductive rights.
