Uh…whoa. Well, first lets clarify that these are actual, real casting calls. That yeah, real women have to deal. One such woman, actress Katrina Day, frustrated with this general absurdity on the job, created Some Lady Parts—a blog that works to cast light on sexism in the acting world. You might recognize it, because it went viral last year. Now, Some Lady Parts is taking it to the next level with a hilarious web-series starring actors doggy-paddling through seemingly unending instances of sexist bullshit in pursuit of work.
I can’t even imagine dealing with that level of shameless patriarchy on a daily basis, in addition to all the patriarchy that is like…everywhere else already. Can you imagine if for you, job hunting meant scrolling through hundreds of posts like, “Female. Insanely Attractive. ‘Molten Hot.’”? And that’s only the beginning—Lady Part’s brilliant new web series takes us through it all, from the auditions to the stage.
I loved watching this series. It’s poignant, disturbingly funny and unfortunately realistic. It’s important that women have a platform to talk and laugh about these issues - breaking the isolation seems like a plausible first step in rupturing the all-encompassing and sometimes daunting power of our sexist world order. It must feel so good to be in this field and see this step towards earnest critique shine through.
If anything, maybe Lady Parts’ spot-on parody will have enough spunk to push casting directors towards eventually making some kind of major change. I mean, when the level of objectification is so absurd that it’s laughable, the world, and in this case, casting directors, should be embarrassed. I guarantee that even if you aren't an actor, you'll see some of your own reality in this brilliant new web series. You can watch the whole thing here.
