Whether you’re in homeroom or at the water cooler, chances are the people around you are talking VMAs today. From JBiebs’s tears to Kanye’s presidential candidacy announcement, there’s plenty to discuss on the topic. One major thing of note from last night’s award ceremony is that the ladies of the music world were totally kicking ass right and left. Here’s our list list of the top 5 feminist moments from last night. Spoiler alert: Nicki and T-Swift are at the center of most of them.

1. Amber Rose & Blac Chyna’s outfits

Beautiful goddesses Amber Rose and Blac Chyna hit the red carpet in coordinating outfits with a purpose. The jumpsuit and dress were covered in neon derogatory words for women like bitch, whore, slut, and hoe. The outfits were a stunning shout out to Rose's involvement in Slut Walk L.A, which is a walk to help end sexual injustice, victim blaming, derogatory labeling, and gender inequality.

2. Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Bury the Hatchet

Nicki opened the VMAs with a performance of her new song “Trini Dem Girls” and was joined on stage during her second number, “The Night Is Still Young,” by none other than Tay Tay. They ended their performance with a bit of Swift’s song “Bad Blood,” thus effectively putting an end to their Twitter disagreement. The two hugged it out at the close, and it really looks like their feud is officially over.

3. T-Swift’s Badass “Bad Blood” Crew

Taylor Swift took home Video of the Year for “Bad Blood,” and she had many of her “Bad Blood” ladies there for support. Here she is with her crew on the red carpet. I just love how they’re holding hands and hanging on to one another. Female friendship FTW.

4. Nicki Calling Out Miley

Minutes after “making up” with Tay, Nicki called Miley a bitch over her recent comments about Minaj to the New York Times. While name calling other women is certainly not a feminist move, Nicki stood up for her point about the lack of consideration for intersectionality in the music industry, which Miley clearly didn’t get. It’s worth pointing out that Miley was sporting dreads at this moment of the awards ceremony. UGH

5. Women won in most of the major categories

Yay women!

Video of the Year went to Taylor Swift for "Bad Blood." Best Pop Video also went to Taylor for "Blank Space." Best Hip-Hop Video naturally went to Nicki Minaj for "Anaconda." Best Collaboration went to "Bad Blood," as well. And even Queen Bey got a shout out for Best Editing of "7/11"

Keep on killin it, ladies

Amber Rose: Social Media Made Me A "Feminist Monster"

Olivia’s first sentence was “No talk, just laugh” and since then, she’s made it her business to find the humorous side of life and share her absurd observations with others. She’s a writer, a lover of all things pop culture, and she can’t fall asleep without having 30 Rock on in the background.
