Ryan Gosling is the hot ticket of the moment and with good reason. After seeing Half Nelson, Drive, and..even The Notebook, I was not only impressed with his acting, but also quite smitten with his charm so it's no surprise that I'm totally obsessed with the hilarious memes of Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling and the adorable video below of Ryan Gosling himself reading the "hey girls" out loud. Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling has been doing a great job of keeping up eye candy and hilarity, but I...
Feeling bloated? Perhaps you’re having abdominal pain? Or maybe you’re just peeing more frequently? Although these symptoms don’t seem like much, they could all be signs of ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer was believed to be a silent killer, but more often than not these run of the mill symptoms (bloating, pelvic/abdominal pain, urinary symptoms and difficulty eating or feeling full quickly) are misdiagnosed. To help women...
The number one reason I wish I lived in NYC, from this past weekend, was SlutWalk NYC!  I really wish I could have made it.  I even had a poster I wanted to make, inspired by (stolen from) another sign I'd seen online: "When a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face YOU TREAT HER WITH RESPECT!"  I love that these SlutWalks have been growing as a movement and happening all across the US, and even around...
There’s a new label for women floating around on the Internet: bagel girls. A Konglish (Korean + English) combination of baby-faced and glamorous, the phrase started popping up about a year ago on websites dedicated to K-pop and South Korean celebrities. South Korean stars, especially actresses and singers, are praised as bagel girls for the contrast between what fans have called their youthful “baby faces” and “glamorous” bodies.  Actresses and singers like Shin Min Ah, UEE, and Shin Se Kyung have received a lot of attention...

Looking for a way to learn more about feminism or immerse yourself in causes that matter to you? Soapbox Inc’s Feminist Boot Camp might be worth a look. Feminist Boot Camp is an intensive week-long program that is designed for young women, or anyone really, who is interested in meeting the movers and shakers of the modern feminist world. Created by Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner, the activists and authors of Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future, will also be guiding the urban feminist retreat. Each...

Men Are Finished...  Does this mean total world domination by women, the end of men in power positions, or a surge toward gender equality? Recently the group Intelligence Squared held a debate, “Men Are Finished,” in N.Y.C. to argue all of this out. The debate was far from a simple battle of the sexes; it was more of a battle of feminist ideologies. Certainly an interesting title, the debaters spent most of the debate defining what “Men Are Finished” truly meant to them.  The teams were journalist...
Save the Brooklyn Birthing Center! The Brooklyn Birthing Center is the only one of its kind in the entire state of New York.  Recently it has come under grave threat, as Medicaid has just cut its funding. If the funding does not become reinstated, the center will be forced to close.  This would limit pregnant women who wanted to give birth at the center to only hospitals or their homes.  Medicaid’s reimbursement rate to the Brooklyn Birthing Center was slashed without warning or explanation, leaving...

Slut Walk NYC is a grassroots mission doing its part to end sexual and domestic violence to women all around the globe. The movement grew from a comment by a police officer who told women the best way to protect themselves against sexual violence would be to stop dressing like sluts. Understandably outraged, over 3000 women exercised their rights to free assembly and speech and marched to show support for the end of discrimination. Marches are now world wide with successful runs in London, New...

Erika Lopez, a writer and performance artist who has been featured in the pages of BUST, is in N.Y.C. with a new performance project, The Welfare Queen. Adapted from her memoir, The Girl Must Die, the new work chronicles Lopez’s descent from a Simon and Schuster-published author to a welfare and food stamp recipient, all in the matter of a few years. In 1998, Simon and Schuster published Lopez’s illustrated novel Flaming Iguanas. After breaking ties with the publishing company,...

If anyone was watching the Emmys on Sunday, you may have noticed Glee star Heather Morris' nipple slip on the red carpet.  This is hardly shocking news, as these fashion faux-pas seem to happen constantly in Hollywood. If you search "nip slip" online you can find pictures of various celebrities accidentally flashing some boob.  What I don't understand is why human beings are shocked over a little nudity these days. Sure it's unexpected, sure it isn't supposed to happen (or is it?), but when did nudity become...
