It's no secret that Black Girl Magic has been taking over the podcast world. Fan favorites like BuzzFeed’s Another Round, Girl on Guy with Aisha Tyler, Be Honest with Cari Champion, Black Girls Talking, and the new kids on the block, Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson, hit number one on iTunes following the premiere of 2 Dope Queens. But there are plenty of other melanin to podcast heaven shows that you should be getting in formation to subscribe to. I’m here to put you on to some great shows you may have been sleeping on that you need to get into ASAP.
1. mmhmm, girl
Who doesn’t love a lush? Mmhmm, girl covers everything from stories of them out on the town drinking to random topics you didn’t know you needed in your life like the ranking of hood movies and an Olympics for pettiness.
2. Gridiron Gals
Women know and love sports, and the Gridiron Gals are here to prove it. If you are a football fanatic and are tired of the same old testosterone-filled commentary, these ladies will break down the NFL in an informative yet sassy way.
3. Audacious Kay
You are a bad mutha when you can host a podcast by yourself and rant about everything going on in society without sounding like you are rambling. She brings you into the room with her while she calls out f*ckery and/or just reflects on her life and growth.
4. Sit With Us
You are definitely going to want to sit with Tia and Kim, so be happy they invite you to the table. These ladies provide hilarious pop culture commentary without trying hard to be funny. They have great chemistry, and it's the perfect combination of righteous and ratchet.
5. Hashtags and Stilettos
It's not always about being entertained. You must always keep a show in rotation that inspires you, and this show is that for me.
6. 2 Black Girls & A Mic
I don’t know how old they are, but every time I listen to them, I feel like I’m sitting at a picnic table at the family reunion playing spades with my favorite aunts that are hip to everything going on in pop culture but may still have a question or two about the millennial lifestyle. They don’t shy away from any topics, so sex makes its way into most episodes.
7. Two Brown Girls Talk Back
Two Brown Girls Talk Back covers all things TV and film from the brown girl perspective, from musings about the business side of the industry like screenwriting, acting and castings, to Hollywood’s shenanigans and what you should be watching on both the big and small screen.
8. Friends Like Us
Imagine being invited to brunch with a group of comedians and discussing hot topics. Be ready to be hilariously enlightened about everything going on in the news right now.
9. Melanin Millennials
It's always great to see how other people view the crazy things that happen in the United States, and Imrie and Satia are the perfect flies on the wall, hailing from London. Topics are extremely random. One week they’ll be talking about porn, and the next they’ll be talking about injustices. They also bring you into things going on in the U.K.
10. The TOMBOI Brunch
Who doesn’t love brunch? Grab your shrimp and grits and a mimosa and turn this up every Saturday. Katrina Chambers is veteran in the entertainment business, so you never know who will check in with her to talk about sports, music, and everything else on her mind at the moment.
Go on ahead and add all this good melanin to your favorite podcast app. Shameless plug before I get out of here: I host a hilarious, sex positive podcast called The Girth and a music podcast called Arbiters of A&R that hips you to the new music you should be copping every Friday.
Be sure to add those as well and five star them thangs!
If you still can’t get enough of this black girl magic, go here to check out a couple more podcasts to check out.
