We all know her as Susan Fischer, the rookie security guard at Litchfield Penitentiary on the hit Netflix original series, Orange Is The New Black. As a mousey and quiet do-gooder on the show played by talented improviser and actress, Lauren Lapkus, her character aims to please. But now, with her new podcast out and debuting as the #1 iTunes Comedy Podcast, With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus is anything but polite.
Already three shows strong, the premise of her podcast can best be explained by the jingly theme song written by Lauren Lapkus herself with music by Michael Malarkey:
“She’s the host but she’s always a guest and the guest is a host so she’s not really the host, it’s With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus, with your host as somebody else.”
The podcast shows off Lapkus’ ability to immerse herself into different characters each week while being interviewed by a guest, well, the host, but actually the guest. Traci Reardon (pronounced by Traci as Twaci Reawrdon) is the 17-year-old maybe-maybe-not grandma killing, bubblegum chewing, Claire’s working young lady who will talk about anything and everything, and gives great advice via her “#HelpMeWhonda” segment (check it out and follow Traci Reardon here.)
Comedians Paul Brittain, Betsy Sodaro, and Paul F. Tompkins have been the three host/guests so far on the show and have worked off Lapkus’ hilarious characters with ease. The podcast airs every week with new and old characters conjured up by Lapkus in the moment or planned ahead of time and is worth tuning in if you don’t mind experiencing perpetual giggles for 45 minutes straight.
It's no surprise comedian Lauren Lapkus has found a home at Earwolf Media, which also produces such great comedy podcasts as Comedy Bang Bang (Scott Aukerman), Professor Blastoff (Tig Notaro), and Improv4humans (Matt Besser).
