You know, it's funny--despite my insane perfectionism when it comes to wrapping gifts, I've never gotten on board with gift tags. Six different kinds of ribbon and real pine branches, sure. But actual tags? Man, by the time I've wrestled with all the silly accoutrements, there's little room for anything but a taped-on wrapping paper scrap, the To and From hastily scribbled in ballpoint pen. It's a bit of a disconnect. So this year, in an effort to streamline my way-overboard packaging schemes, I've decided to let...

Busties! I've been neglecting you and I'm terribly, terribly sorry. I've been knee-deep in end-of-semester research papers, including on one everyone's favorite former VP candidate, and haven't had time to check in here much. But I wanted to share this comic strip with you. Monica Gallagher is one of my fave indie comics artists, and she does a regular strip on roller derby girl Bonnie N. Collide's nine to five normal life. You can read more of them here!  ...

I'm so excited that my all-grrrl pop-punk band Royal Pink is going to be playing tomorrow night at the Girls Rock and Girls Rule 7th Anniversary Show! Seriously, when was the last time you went to a rock show that had EIGHT girl bands on the bill? So awes! What's even more awes is that we're all kicking out the jams for a great cause, the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls . So come on out and give us a shout! Emily...
After you throw on your new beautiful handcrafted sweater, and fresh Verameat dino necklace from the LA Bust Craftacular; head on over to Quicksilver's siteLA from 6pm to 11pm and enjoy the opening reception for Shifting Gears. The exhibit showcases the work-in-progress of Khrystnes eco-friendly concept car. There will be paintings, graphics, a scale model, a DJ and (so hip you havent head of it yet) eco-friendly cocktails. xoxo Allie Allen ...

According to Hollywood Reporter , Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame has been pegged to play rocker Joan Jett in the Runaways movie. She's already working on her bad reputation (heh-sorry) so we'll see how she does, it's not a bad choice actually. We were speculating back in June that it should be Ellen Page or Olivia Thirby.  What do you think? I personally love the Runaways, so am excited to see it, apparently Joan is a producer as well. ...

The NY Times today had an interesting article about how the early Earth may have looked. By studying crystals in Australian rocks, (pictured on the left), scientists have formed what they think is a more accurate picture of what Earth actually looked like, as depicted in the image on the right. Isn't it incredible? I had no idea that the Earth looked exactly like my trapper keeper I had in 3rd grade! All that's missing is a couple of dolphins or Orca whales jumping out...

While some may be wasting precious tv time (and brain cells) watching Britney's documentary tonite, I was thrilled to catch a show on a very different blonde entertainer, Miss Mitzi Gaynor in her interview special on PBS, called Razzle Dazzle: The Special Years. Perhaps I truly am a gay man trapped in a womans body, but for some reason, I just cant get enough of Mitzi and her outfits and dance moves. Most of the show was scenes from her 70's variety...

Shelby Lynne and her fantabulous band played at HIRO in NYC this past Friday night. They're finishing up a tour that started about a year ago for the press launch for Shelby's latest gem Just A Little Lovin'. This of course is Shelby's interpretation of selections from the late great Dusty Springfield's songbook. That show was all about the Dusty material. This time around Shelby framed some of her originals around Dusty's stuff and played an eclectic mix of these two great artists music. Shelby...

Why is this show so good? No matter what else is on, I will immediately dig into any episode, especially since it seems like it 's always on, airing on about every channel except PBS. Hugh Laurie is peculiarly attractive to me, even tho he's totally not my type. Just re-watched the episode where House gets shot and that other guys' balls explode on USA, and now I can just flip to Fox for more episodes, this is good tv, people, and plenty of it. photo...

Boss Hog, the punk rock spawn of Cristina Martinez and Jon Spencer will return for their first show in 8 years following a mini tour in Europe and performances at All Tomorrow's Parties.  Joining Boss Hog at the Bowery Ballroom on Dec. 17th is a full compliment of rhythm and grind, featuring the country punk moxie of Tennessee's Those Darlins , the titillating parade of burlesque goddesses Harvest Moon and Dirty Martini , and special guest DJ Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah...
