I couldn't find anything BUST-y on the racks for the past couple of weeks, and I know you gals were missing me, so I picked up this short graphic novel that came highly recommended by a couple of friends. Suburban Glamour is an indie-rock fairy tale, not an entirely original story but a fun one. Jamie McKelvie's art is what really distinguishes this book from other changeling stories--it's bright-candy-colored and good enough to eat, with a foxy rock'n'roll heroine and plenty of flash. McKelvie gets...

If you're in New York, you know it's that magical time of year. Yes, the CMJ Music Marathon has rolled into town and the city has turned into a 24/7 party of ear ecstasy! There are a million shows to go to this week, but be sure to check out the Fool's Gold Showcase tomorrow night at Bowery Ballroom at 10 pm. The label's finest will be performing, including A-Trak, Dave 1 and, of course, our favorite manicured MC, Kid Sister. She'll be spitting rhymes...

Two of my favorite artists are in a show together opening Thursday night in NYC, the lovely Melissa Auf der Mar (former bassist of Hole) and Conrad Keely from ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Melissa is showing her photography, and Conrad his ballpoint pen drawings. Should be an excellent exhibit. ...

Lola, the hit of the Los Angeles underground art scene, will be presenting her first solo show at Corey Helford Gallery. Starting as a tattoo artist, Lola built up her first collections between customers. Her newest exhibit, called 'The Wondermental,' tells the story of a young boy's journey into the unknown, with each painting serving as one piece of the narrative. Her paintings blend delicate imagery with the surreal, lending the collection a dark yet charming tone. The exhibition opens on Saturday, October 25 and runs until...

I don't want to discuss this weeks Mad Men in case some of you slackers are waiting to watch still, but I was happy to see a nice interview with Christina Hendricks, aka Joan Holloway in this Sunday's Post, Page Six. Click here for the interview where she discusses the problem of being a bodacious broad in Hollywood. 'No one will send me dresses,' she says. 'Designers loan size 2 or 4 samples to actresses, but I'm not that size. It's like I'm a...

They will also be screening her most well known film 'Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!' Tura spent most of her childhood growing up in Chicago, so this opening hits close to home. While waiting in line for the brain surgeons at the Highline Ballroom in NYC last night to figure out the guest list for the Pretenders show, a guy in front of me turned and said 'Well, maybe you can get into Madison Square Garden instead?' I asked him 'For what? He replied 'Madonna's there tonight, Isn't that ironic?' I didn't get the irony. Anyway, as he was watching all the color drain from my face I said 'No thank you. Madonna's never...

Autumn and Jerry de Wilde, whose combined careers span from the 60's to the present, are well known for capturing iconic images of influential artists and events. Their shared exhibit "Autumn de Wilde & Jerry de Wilde: Two Generations of Counterculture Photography" opens on October 17 at the Morrison Hotel Gallery's Soho Loft, and will feature a selection of 50 photos by the father/daughter duo. That's twice the awesome in one night! Jerry de Wilde's photography traced the Counterculture of the late 60's into the...
