Get out your grill, girlfriend! The only way to deal with a beautiful summer day is to bask in its glory and have a good, old-fashioned meal off the grill.
Here at BUST, we head straight to the Queen o' grilling for all the latest recipes and inspiration for our barbecue dreamz. Actually, this Queen is so modest she simply calls herself Grill Grrrl (or Robyn Medlin Lindars to her friends).
Grill Grrrl has an amazing blog where she shares “healthy, simple and creative recipes” for your grill. These recipes range from tandoori chicken, roasted pablano, rum raisin bread pudding and BUST fave, grilled cocktails!
In fact, let’s share some of these recipes now courtesy of the Grill Grrrl blog.
This recipe makes a pitcher of margaritas, roughly 4 very large glasses.
Ingredients:
3 lbs limes/lemons plus a few oranges, sliced in half
½ cup sugar
3/4 cup tequila
1/4 cup triple sec
1 cup simple syrup to taste
1 pitcher full of ice
Directions:
Dip the sliced citrus in a bowl of sugar so they have a light coating. Grill the citrus on medium high heat until they have char marks. Let them rest until they are cool enough to be juiced . Fill your margarita pitcher halfway full of ice, then add the tequila and triple sec. Add the juice to the ice/tequila mixture- by adding it to ice itwill help cut the tartness of the citrus. Add the simple syrup in small batches until the proper sweetness is achieved.
Not only does Grill Grrrl supply you with amazing recipes, but she is also an advocate for women grillers. I’m not sure what it’s like here but back in Australia whenever I'm at a barbecue (what you Americans would call a cookout) all the boys hang out at the grill, drinking beers and um, grilling, while the girls deal with the salads and drinks. Why can’t we be grillmasters, too?!
Medlin Lindars holds quarterly “Women’s Grilling Clinics,” designed to help women feel less intimidated by the grill. And although it sucks, we really do need these when you consider the fact that so many men don't think women can grill and are totally okay with publicly making sexist jokes about it.
This summer, let’s not leave the grilling to the guys. Get on the blog, pick your fave recipes and hold the best cookout known to mankind.
Just don’t forget to invite me.
