Let’s Veg Out at the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival!

by Intern Chrislande

I am a worshipper of vegan mac ‘n’ cheese. Actually, for a person who eats meat, I find myself thinking about yummy vegan/vegetarian fare all the time. Just last night, I was explaining to my friend Chris all the wonders of vegetarian chorizo. And is there anything quite like a seitan Jamaican patty? The golden crust hiding that steaming curry-spiced treasure! Real talk: I love food!  And it’s about that time of year when all my vegan/vegetarian food dreams come true.

The NYC Vegetarian Food Festival is this weekend!

When: Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Where: The Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, Manhattan

How Much: ONLY FIVE DOLLARS (!)

I may be new to NYC, but I know that this festival is mad famous– last year it was so packed that people were being turned away.  The organizers have taken it to the next level in 2012 by choosing a bigger venue and bringing in more vendors. The festival will have cooking demos, lectures, book signings, and all your vegan/vegetarian dreams will come true– for just five dollars.

New York City has the title “mecca” thrown at it often, but when it comes to vegetarian and vegan food culture, I have to agree that the term is justified.  You can find delicious vegan fare in all five boroughs. I love walking down my block in East Flatbush, munching on one of those heavenly seitan Jamaican patties.

If you live in New York, you should definitely come out (and if you don’t, it’s worth the trip!). I will most likely be chowing down there this weekend.

Let me know if you’ll be attending! I will find you to say “hi” in between mouthfuls of vegan mac ‘n’ cheese.
