Yoga Classes “Pop Up” in Unusual Places for Sandy Relief

by Tess Duncan

Pop Up Yoga NYC is exactly what it sounds like. People doing yoga wherever they can, poppin’ classes up all over New York. A park? Duh. A rooftop, a school, a market? You bet! The wellness initiative moves yoga out of the studio and into urban environments. With a mere $5 donation fee, these classes are a great way to shake up your yoga routine. Back in November, the organization teamed up with grassroots group Sandybaggers for a Staten Island relief fundraiser. Now the Pop Up Yoga is putting together something even more exciting.

All March long the group will be hosting fundraising classes every Tuesday and Wednesday. All proceeds are given to Rockaway Beach Surf Club to aid in the reconstruction of the coastline. Tuesdays in March people will be gettin’ their yog’ on at 8:30pm-9:15 pm at Pushcart Coffee at Peter’s Field (362 2nd Ave at East 21st St). Wednesday classes will take place from 7:30pm-8:30pm at Modca Café (103 N 3rd St between Berry & Wythe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY). Celebrate your contribution with Pop Up Yoga NYC at the closing event/afterparty on March 27th at Modca Café at 7:30pm! The wrap party will include DJs, live music, arts, food, and natural beauty products. Be part of the solution and don’t forget to BYOM. (Bring Your Own Mat!)
