VH1 List Their 100 Greatest Women In Music

by Ivanna Avalos

VH1 counted down their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music last week, and while I feel some ladies were overlooked and others given a spot they shouldn’t have, I do applaud VH1 for recognizing the contributions that female musicians have made to the music industry.

The list spans the past two decades— wow, has it really been that long since the 90s? Many of the ladies on this list broke musical barriers, fighting their way into arenas that were usually male-dominated, and their influence paved the way for some of this generation’s greatest performers.

Among my personal favorites on the list were Hayley Williams of Paramore, Janet Jackson, Shirley Manson of Garbage, Courtney Love (yes, she’s completely insane, but her lyrics are amazing), Sade, Adele, Alanis Morissette, and Gwen Stefani. I could go on and on, but instead, I’ll leave you with this retro classic:
