Veteran actress Holland Taylor recently opened up about falling in love with a woman in an interview with the podcast “Death, Sex & Money.”
Holland, 72, has been acting for almost 50 years. You might know her for her recurring roles on The L Word, Two And A Half Men, The Practice or Bosom Buddies or the movies Legally Blonde and The Truman Show.
This is Holland’s first serious relationship and the first she has spoken about publicly, but she insists that the interview shouldn’t be seen as coming out.
“I haven’t come out because I am out,” she said. “I live out.”
Holland said that she opened up to love after grieving her mother’s death several years ago.
“I was always at a certain safe remove I think,” she said. “No matter how much I might have loved a person, I was at some sort of a safe ground, still with a foot on my own island.”
After her mother’s death, she said, “I just suddenly got the sense that I was living a very shallow life. I had not had wonderful relationships. I had stayed very solo.”
But now, Holland seems very happy – and the way she talks about her girlfriend is so sweet.
“It’s the most wonderful extraordinary thing that could have ever possibly happened in my life,” Holland said. She wouldn’t identify her girlfriend, but revealed that they’re considering getting married.
“Given my generation it would not be something that would automatically occur to me,” Holland said of marriage, adding, “But as a symbol, as a pledge, as a plighting one’s troth, it would be a wonderful thing to do.”
