Today, there’s another reason to applaud the Olympic diver, Tom Daley! In a moving Youtube video released this morning, Tom Daley revealed he is in a romantic relationship with another male. “This has been a hard decision to make,” he wrote in the video summary, “but I wanted you to hear this from me.” Daley shared that the majority of his family and friends have been overwhelmingly supportive when he told them about the relationship. He explains that he decided to break the news in a Youtube video rather than in an interview to make sure that the media would not misconstrue his words. Other athletes have offered words of praise and support for the British diver. Edward Lord, chairman of the Amateur Swimming Association, echoed this sentiment, “To be one of the first British Olympic athletes to come out is very brave. We must all support Tom in taking this incredibly courageous step.”
