MSNBC Anchor Wears Tampon Earrings to Protest Texas Ruling

by Daisy Becerra

After pads and tampons were confiscated last week during an anti-abortion law hearing, I had enough sense to believe people were going to go bat-shit crazy over this latest Texas travesty. They did. But after MSNBC anchor Melissa Harris-Perry donned a pair of tampon earrings this weekend to prove a point, it’s no wonder we’re still sitting here, fighting the same damn fight over our own bodies.

“What a nasty skank.”

“The Left are psychotic.”

“You’re a dumb bitch!”

These are just a few of the comments left by angry YouTube users who I can only imagine are disgusted by Harris-Perry’s “radical” accessories.

Well, Melissa Harris-Perry proved her point alright. “You weren’t allowed initially to bring tampons. So, just in case that ever happens again ladies, you can just bring them on your earrings,” she said on-air while putting on the dangly earrings her producer made for her.

Harris-Perry made light of the Texas legislature’s own radical move. Yet, the magnitude of hate for Harris-Perry’s joke represents a general disdain for all things female.

We shouldn’t apologize for our bodies, nor should we apologize for the right to own our bodies. Harris-Perry’s joke made a mockery of the Texas legislature’s ludicrous demands and unfair body policing. I give her props.

Internet, please catch up. If you need reasons to believe in actions like Harris-Perry’s tampon move, the proof is in the comments section.
