Marcel the Shell With Shoes On: A Lesson In A-frickin-dorable

by Intern Brittany J.

What’s that you say? You need something to cheer you up? Thursday is a bore because it’s almost Friday but not quite Friday and you’re having a hard time staying awake enough to even make it to Friday? Think your life is rough? Well think again.

This is Marcel. Marcel is a shell. Marcel wears shoes and seems somewhat gender-ambiguous. Marcel ate some cheese once, but it was probably a bad idea. Marcel has to walk on phones to talk on them. Marcel has one regret in life, which means Marcel gets to hang out with lint sometimes. Overall, Marcel could gripe about the woes of his/her little life, but s/he won’t. Because Marcel has friends to eat salad with. And who doesn’t want that?

Check out this fantastic video from SNL’s Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp. The pair co-wrote, while Dean directed and Jenny gave a voice to our little shoe-wearing shell friend. Recognize Jenny? Perhaps it’s not just SNL you’ve seen her on…we featured her a while back when we posted about the short romantic comedy Obvious Child, directed by Gillian Robespierre and written by t Karen Maine, and Anna Bean, who is also a former BUST intern! (This gives me hope.) We love you, Jenny!
