Joan Didion Is Named The New Face Of Céline, Proving That Beauty & Grace Know No Age

by Marissa Dubecky

Amazing news for women of all ages and bibliophiles alike: Joan Didion is being featured in Céline’s latest ad campaign, joining the growing list of older women who represent major consumer product companies.

The journalist, novelist, screenwriter, and icon has been called the muse of the French luxury brand’s creative director, Phoebe Philo, who is quick to point out that age doesn’t limit the 80 year-old from being the ultimate Céline woman. Fearless in her ambition and willing to share her rawest personal experiences with the world, Didion’s admirable accomplishments, groundbreaking writing, and sophisticated style are the recipe for true beauty—and the epitome of what it means to be timelessly chic.

L’Oreal and Lanvin have also sung the praise of older beauties in recent years, tapping actress Helen Mirren (69) and dancer Tajah Murdock (82) for major advertising campaigns, respectively. L’Oreal also has courted Diane Keaton (68) and Jane Fonda (76) as ambassadors. Images of these women are noticeably less airbrushed than the usual photos of gamine young models. What’s more: They begin to break down the myths of impossible beauty standards and prove that—just maybe—we’re finally ready to look at women from every age and angle and find them beautiful.
