It was only recently that I learned about Cindy Watson and the significant positive difference she makes in the lives and careers of women. First, Cindy Watson has achieved success as an attorney, a field traditionally dominated by men. When she first started out, she found herself needing to adopt stereotypically male behavior with an aggressive style. Becoming known as a “barracuda” in the firm where she began was a compliment. She wore the reputation as a badge of honor until the pressure to relate to people in that way began to affect her personal relationships and the sense she had of herself.

Thirty years ago, as part of her own journey and growth, Cindy became the founder and managing partner of Watson Labour Lawyers, specializing in social justice law.
Cindy analyzed the process of negotiation and determined six key elements that lead to success:

Assertiveness, of course, is stereotypically considered masculine. Cindy noticed, however, that the other traits for effective negotiation are generally associated with femininity. Aha! The resulting acronym is A.R.E.F.I.T. It conveys the idea that women ARE FIT to be successful negotiators … by using the strengths of who they are.
Cindy uses this realization today to make a positive impact on the world by helping women realize their innate capabilities in business and in life. She established WOMEN ON PURPOSE to help women step into the full force of their innate power by learning The Art of Feminine Negotiation™. This was the start of the “mission” that now drives and motivates her every day.

From my point of view, it’s an unassailable fact: the more fully each of us can contribute our ideas and insights to achieve success in the world we share, the better off we all will be. I’m encouraged that Cindy is actively using her insights and skills to help women contribute maximally throughout their lives. She’s done over 50 podcast guest interviews along with many Zoom presentations for women’s groups, mediators’ groups, etc. She has also had a very positive impact on audiences across the continent in the many keynote speeches she has given and stills gives to this day.
