At that last panel, I met one of my comics heroes, Colleen Doran, whom I’ve loved since her art on Sandman way back when. I also got to meet Fiona Staples, Christine Norrie, and Christina Strain , more fabulous artists, and catch up a bit with Molly Crabapple and Nikki Cook.
It wasn’t all girl-time this weekend, though. I did some drinkin’ and dancin’ with one of my favorite writers (and the BUSTiest guy in comics) Kieron Gillen. (Remember my review of Phonogram? Why not?) I made time for Leigh Walton , from my beloved Top Shelf. And no con is complete without catching up with Ryan Kelly , of Local and The New York Four.
Mostly, though, the con just reminds me how much fun comics are. And more importantly, each one I go to, I see more and more ladies. This time, the two women in comics panels I attended were full to overflowing, with people sitting in the aisles and standing outside, and the line for the Wonder Woman screening was there two hours before doors opened. Comics are indeed for everyone.
