Forbes’ Most Powerful Women Are Geeks

by Laurel Walsh

The lady supergeek is taking over! Is it any surprise that women have the genius brains behind some of the world’s coolest programs and gadgets? Nope. But is it nice to see them get recognized? Hell yes. Forbes’ list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women was released yesterday, with one in six women coming from the world of technology.

Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg is the highest-ranking tech chick, followed by IBM’s Virginia Rometty, Xerox’s Ursula Burns, and HP’s Meg Whitman. Your usual techie crowd is there too: Google’s Susan Wojcicki and Yahoo!’s Marissa Mayer both made the list.

The best part? Thirteen of Forbes’ sixteen featured tech women got higher spots on the list than they had last year. They’re movin’ on up.

Along with the geeks, Forbes’ power list features your usual suspects – Oprah Winfrey, Angela Merkel, Beyonce, and a smattering of the world’s smartest CEOs and world leaders. Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton both made the top five.

Even if technology’s not your thing, put on your Leslie Knope hat and get jazzed about these women on top! Check out the full list on Forbes.com.
