Decorations of Independence: 4th of July Food, Drink, & Craft Roundup

by Debbie Stoller

We’re superexcited about the upcoming fourth of July holiday. Okay, we admit that’s more because it’s a three-day weekend and an excuse for a fun backyard party than because of its origins as an important national holiday. Either way, it’s a great way day to celebrate your own independent spirit by crafting or cooking up some fun red white and blue items. Here are some great ideas scavenged from around the interwebs:

Free printables make for quick and cute sparkler table decorations, from Twig and Thistle.

These Jell-o shots look like loads of fun. Shared on food.com.

If you make red, white and blue cupcakes, you’ll need these very cute cupcake holders, from Cupcakeconfessional

These lovely ice pops are made with cranberry juice, lemondade, and….Gatorade. (yuck). Nevertheless, they look pretty classy. From myrecipes.com.

It may be a bit difficult to decipher this recipe for Red White and Blue “jellies” from the BBC’s Good Food site (gelatin leaves? what the heck?), but the results look like they’re worth it.

Martha brings it patriotic-stylie with instructions for these fabric star medallions. Would look cute hanging from the eaves of a porch, dontcha think?

These cupcakes require oodles of food coloring and something called “candy coating disks” but they do look mighty fine. Via skiptomylou.org.

I just bet this layered, non-alcoholic version of a red white and blue drink tastes like magic. Via Chocolate on my cranium.
