Broad City: A Hilarious Show That’s Poehler-Approved

by Amy Bucknam

All of us here at BUST love ourselves some funny ladies.  That’s why we’re going to talk about how the online show Broad City is worth checking out for a good hearty laugh.

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are the creators and stars of the online comedy series Broad City.  The 2-to-7 minute long webisodes depict life in the city for the two uncomfortably awkward twenty-somethings.  And the ladies have been at it since 2010.

Last year, The Wall Street Journal called their comedy “sneak attack feminism,” a description fitting to one of the show’s themes, making fun of the female stereotypes in hilarious ways.

“If you watch one of our episodes, there’s not a big message,” Jacobson told the WSJ. “But if you watch all of them, I think, they’re empowering to women.”

The best part?  Comedy Central ordered a pilot from Broad City last month, and, along with Jacobson and Glazer, Amy Poehler will be producing the show.  I’m sorry, I’m not sure you heard me: AMY POEHLER WILL PRODUCE THE SHOW!

“Amy Poehler told me this would be a great show for us, and that’s good enough for me,” said Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production at Comedy Central.

Check out the teaser for Broad City below, or all of the episodes on their site.   And be sure to keep your eyes peeled for their Poehler-produced show on Comedy Central.
