I recently stumbled across this recipe on Mouth From the South for chocolate chip cookies with..wait for it..bacon in them! As a longtime fan of all things salty/sweet and desserts with sea salt, I was instantly intrigued. My friend and I decided to test this recipe out and see how our (and other office BUSTies) taste buds would react. We weren’t entirely faithful in the recipe because, while, I found all the different kinds of chocolate needed, the forms were different. An example would be that we found a bittersweet chocolate bar instead of semisweet and found semisweet chocolate chips instead of a chocolate bar and vice vera. I don’t think it made much of a difference in the end though, chocolate is always delicious. My friend initially bought a Bacon Chocolate Bar thinking that would be enough of a bacon taste, but I’m one to try and follow recipes if possible and thought that might be too subtle. This recipe called for an entire cup of bacon!

Delicious bacon and brown butter! We put the sugar and butter together and tasted it with the bacon. So good!
By the end of the recipe, something was amiss though. We ended up having to add an extra egg white to make the cookie dough a bit less dry. We stuck ‘em in the oven and watched as we saw the ginormous chunks of chocolate and pieces of bacon start to stick out.
(I so rarely get to wear an apron, it was cause for pictures)!
I took them to the BUST office and the consensus was, “Good, but a little strange,” and I have to agree. I thought I would instantly love them, but, I must admit,the initial meat taste in the cookie is a little jarring. I think I would’ve preferred sea salt. Oh well, on to the next baking adventure! Any sea salt dessert recommendations?
