This is where we are now. Far from studios in Hollywood, California or Atlanta, Georgia or in the streets of New York, television is shot from celebrities’ homes, without film crews, assistants, makeup artists, showrunners, etc., and what a time to be alive!
Aside from news broadcastings, ABC’s Saturday Night Live is one of the last shows to air live, not to mention, with a live audience. Of course the legendary sketch show would be forced to pivot in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Forced to suspend production, for the past two weeks, beloved producer Lorne Michaels has carried on the 45th season of SNL, not live and remotely from the casts’ homes, resulting in Saturday Night Live from Home.
This episode that aired April 11, was met with criticism. But, this second episode on April 25, with a cold open from Brad Pitt as Dr. Anthony Fauci, a cover performance of Pink Floyd’ “Wish You Were Here” from Miley Cyrus, and a “What Up With That?” sketch from SNL vet Kenan Thompson, with DJ Khaled, Charles Barkley, and of course, Jason Sudeikis as Vance the Track Suit Guy–television is starting to look up again.
However the funniest sketch goes to Aidy Bryant’s Childhood Journal. In what is presumably her living room, Bryant comedically shares her actual childhood journals, because what else is there to do besides dig through things in your home you haven’t looked at in years?

While poking fun at her younger self’s misspellings and other childhood musings, without skipping a beat, Bryant trails off into how most of us are really feeling, “When are we going to be able to get the hell out of our houses? I can’t keep looking back at the past. And I have nothing inside of here that is the future. Help, help.”
Same sis. Same.
