A-Trak! Major Lazer! Miike Snow! Santigold! for NYC Public School Alumni Organization

by Janelle

I don’t know if three weeks is enough time to mentally prepare for the Downtown Music Festival and all it’s musical-goodness.  In partnership with The Fund for Public Schools, New York-based Downtown Records will be taking over BOTH Webster Hall and Terminal 5 on Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March 5th.

Celebrating the label’s 5th anniversary, Downtown Music Festival is fundraising for the first ever New York City Public School alumni organization. In hopes of encouraging greater involvement by all New Yorkers, Downtown remains committed to their community.

A-Trak, Art Brut, White Denim, Lissy Trullie, and The Suzan will be at Webster Hall on Friday. Saturday night will feature Miike Snow, Major Lazer, Santigold, DJ Mehdi and So Me at Terminal 5. Along with great music, Helmut Lang and Rag & Bone will contribute exclusive merchandise to be sold at these events and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Fund for Public Schools in support of better initiatives for New York City public schools.

Caroline Kennedy, Vice-Chair of The Fund for Public Schools said, “the Downtown Music festival and the generosity of its artists and sponsors, some of whom are public school alumni, will help us give thousands of New York City students the opportunity to learn to love reading. This is a great example of the arts and business communities coming together to support our city’s public school students.”
