TRIGGER WARNING: This post contains nudity and photographs about prostitution. Photographer Alicia Vera is a Miami native whose intrigue with photographing strippers led her to a close friendship with a young woman named Eden. Vera had tried to take photos at various strip clubs over the years, but was consistently denied access. She was able to get the privileges she desired after landing an office job doing social media in the adult entertainment industry. Through Vera’s visits to clubs, she met Eden, then 18, who was working as a stripper. Read More
Multi-talented artist and fashion designer Claudia Gold is painting a mural for BUST tomorrow at our Ladies Represent! art show and we couldn’t be more stoked. Not only will she be showcasing her skills in action, but her work will be featured in our gallery itself! Gold got her start as CLAW Money, the legendary alter ego she created for her street artwork. The New Yorker has been creating vibrant, pop culture-inspired murals and designs since the ‘80s, so we’re honored to have her at our gallery show tomorrow at Superchief. Read More
Don't be a weiner! Here are some rules about how to send hot texts to your lady friend without disrespecting her or making your wang look wack. 1. Flatter her. A text that says, "I can't stop thinking about your _____" is always welcome. (That is, if you've spent intimate time together. If you haven't, then don't send this.) It can be anything: your butt, your neck, your kisses, your apartment, your dog, anything at all. Just make sure you spell it correctly. It's your, not "you're." 2. Don't send a pre-mature dick pic. I’m sure you’ve heard every possible excuse and reason for why you might not have a job right now. It’s the economy, it’s all about connections, there’s just so much competition, blah blah blah. But if you’re a qualified lady applying for every job that you know you could do with your eyes closed, it’s likely nothing you can control. In fact, your resume may not even be read past the first line if your name indicates that you’ve got a V and not a P. That’s what Kim O’Grady learned and wrote about in a recent post on his Tumblr. In anticipation of the upcoming red carpet gala, the Girls mastermind has had a few things to say about the HBO show's nominations. Just now finishing filming the third season of her hit show, (not that anybody's counting the days or anything...) Dunham revealed that she's most excited for co-star's Adam Driver's comedy nomination. Although she's received three noms herself, his gave her a "shriek-y, joyful, amazed sensation." We already relived our favorite parts of our big-ass BUST birthday party from last Thursday, but now we'd like to take a second and say THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH. We couldn't have done it without all of our amazing performers, sponsors, and BUSTies who showed up to celebrate with us! We are so, so, so happy with the way the night went and we wish that night could have lasted forever and ever. The drinks, the music, the dancing, the photo booth, the stand-up, the tears, the speeches, the surprises, the cupcakes, the FREE STUFF! It was just absolutely awesome. Read More
You might've already seen the great boylesque parody of Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" by Mod Carousel, but this one gets an A+++ for creativity and FEMINISM. These ladies totally rewrote the song to show the overtones of sexism, male dominance, and general inappropriateness of the lyrics. The original video and lyrics basically indicates that women are pretending to be "good girls" by playing hard to get with dudes. ("You know you want it." That definitely doesn't sound like a precursor to date rape...) But really, they just "REALLY DON'T WANT IT." THANKS, BUT NO THANKS. Read More
Peeps in France were stoked to see a new postage stamp design featuring the iconic Marianne emblem, representative of liberty and reason for the country. Some (dumbasses) were shocked, however, when they learned that the sketch was inspired by none other than our favorite boob-baring Ukrainian feminist group, FEMEN. President Francois Hollande revealed the illustration of Marianne rocking a Phrygian conical cap on Sunday in honor of Bastille Day. Olivier Ciappa is the photographer and designer behind the controversial art piece. Read More
Whew! We had quite a time this past Thursday at the 20th birthday celebration of BUST. There were loads of amazing ladies and dudes who rolled out to help us get down and have a good ol' time. We laughed, we cried, we danced, we ate cupcakes. It was an incredible, unforgettable experience (for at least this BUSTie) and it reminded us of how much BUST changed our lives and why we love it so, so much. (Sorry for the cheese, but it was kind of a big deal.) We're forever grateful for everyone who came out and helped make it happen. Read More
That's right, our favorite charming heroine of Hollywood has now surpassed Miss Bella herself. Stewart was raking in the dough between May 2011 and May 2012, boasting $34.5 million that year alone. This past year, though, between May of 2012 and 2013, she dropped to $22 million. Meanwhile, Jen Law gained a whopping $26 million between June 2012 to June 2013, thanks to the epic Hunger Games blockbuster. (P.S. Lionsgate paid her $1 milli for the movie itself.) At the ripe age of 22, that makes Jennifer Lawrence the highest paid actor, male or female, under the age of 30. Read More
