Leave m' Lily Alone!

BY Susan in Music

Last Tuesday night I went to see Lily Allen at the Bowery Ballroom with Matt and Kim and it was such an awesome show. Except for the people...When miss L.A. got on stage she was super cute (as usual) but when she took a swig from a glass of what could have been water or soda, everyone in the audience was shouting 'Yeah Lily! Way to go!' and other encouraging words for her to 'drink' even though she has apparently quit drinking and drugs entirely. Read More

If you haven't heard of the incredible book Handmade Nation by now, then you are certainly missing out! Written by Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl published back in October, the book has since become a documentary capturing the burgeoning craft and DIY movement across America. Currently there are screenings across the country (and other countries), and this week the flick is debuting in the big apple. The premiere screening on Thursday is completely sold out, but there are dates following on the 14th and 15th at the Museum of Arts and Design. Check out more info here. Read More

Raised In Craftivity

BY Susan in Arts

Raised in Craftivity, curated by Mara Elena Buszek, is a long-running show at the Wignall Museum at Chaffey College in California . It started up just last night with a curator's walk and reception. These are usually disdained as being 'feminine,' 'domestic' and 'amateur,' but today, this kind of craft media is being embraced and subverted. Some of the artists include Elaine Bradford, Orly Corgan, Carolyn Hopkins and the KnittaPlease group. Read More

Not only is TopShop finally coming to America, but they have an official date! That 'Opening Fall 2008' sign has toyed with my emotions for years now. Ever since I went to London a few years ago, I have literally been hoping to have TopShop here, everyday. Sure, I could have ordered online many times, but there is nothing quite like trying something on, or getting first dibs on celeb-designed lines or even snagging some in-store-only sales. Not only are they coming to NYC, but they picked a prime spot in SOHO right on Broadway (just south of Broome)with an overwhelming 40,000 sqft of space. Read More
