Betty White has been getting a lot of well-deserved attention these days. We recently blogged about how much we love the ex-Golden Girl, as she proves that age ain't nothing but a number when it comes to relevance as an actress and comedienne. According to Entertainment Weekly, Saturday Night Live is close to having the 88-year-old host the show. This would be Betty White's first time hosting, and according to columnist Michael Ausiello, she wouldn't be doing it solo. Read More
I proudly own all seven seasons of the Golden Girls on DVD, and you better believe I consistently wear my "Stay Golden" t-shirt from the BUST Boobtique! Oh Karen O, how we adore thee! It's easy to say we've got nothing but love for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, they graced the cover of BUST back in '06 and are still rocking our worlds to this day. With the release of It's Blitz in 2009, the New York City trio presented fans with something a bit different from their previous guitar-driven garage sound; an album full of synth, glitter, and sweaty dance-all-night tracks.
In the video for "Skeletons", we see a somewhat softer, slightly spooky side of the band: ghostly images of cemeteries, monochromatic visuals, and Victorian-era meets Elvira garb. Read More
Ever since the 2009 presidential election in Iran was tainted by accusations of fraud, the country has been overwhelmed with protests and violence. Recently, opposition leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi issued a statement declaring what solutions he thought would remedy the current crisis. Many female activists felt that his demands, as well as other opposition leaders, did not address the discrimination women face on a daily basis. In response, they issued a statement of their own. In celebration of the anniversary of the infamous pro-choice ruling of Roe v. Wade, local New York feminist filmmakers are holding screenings of two films this Thursday, January 14th. Obvious Child, co-written and produced by previous BUST intern Anna Bean, is a romantic comedy about an unplanned pregnancy, an abortion, and a great first date in an unlikely location. The second film, I Had an Abortion, documents the views of 10 women (including famed feminist Gloria Steinem) as they explain their experiences regarding women's choices throughout the decades. WARNING: You might want to put that cup of coffee down before watching, unless you appreciate java shooting out of your nose while you laugh. Read More
As far as social networking sites are concerned, I often find myself somewhat of a late-in-the-game participant. I swore I'd never join Twitter, but after some coaxing from friends and a few laughs at celebrity posts, I took the plunge. One of the first people I decided to follow was Yoko Ono, because well, I think she's fascinating. Yoko's daily posts are an injection of positivity and wisdom, stemming from her many years involved in art, the peace movement, and her famous relationship with John Lennon. Read More
