As a So-Cal suburban teen, I was a die-hard Sonic Youth lover. So when Kim Gordon launched X-Girl clothing in 1994 I became an insta-fan. My favorite T-shirt was electric blue and said X-Girl in neon orange and pink and wearing it immediately helped me separate the kids I'd like to know from the ones I wouldn't: every jock would say 'X-Girl, does that mean you're a dude now?' while every music nerd would give a knowing nod of alliance. BY Lisa in General

Does your ideal man have a New Zealand accent, occasionally wear an eyepatch because David Bowie suggested it, answer to Hiphopopotamus, or call getting it on 'business time'? Yeah, us too. Which is why we've asked the world's most crush-worthiest duo, Flight of the Conchords, to kick down some knowledge in the love department. Whether you're a Breterosexual, a Jemainiac, or split your allegiance equally, our favorite funny folksters can no doubt offer nuggets of wisdom for all of your relationship woes. Read More

Thread-letter day!

BY Lisa in Arts

I just found out that this super cool looking exhibit, Narrative Thread, is going to be up for an extra week which means my (cold) lazy ass might actually make it over to the nyc gallery where it's showing. I'm a huge fan of embroidery in art so co-curator Orly Cogan's pieces (like the one above) will probably be my favorites, but I can't wait to check out all the crafty work. Read More

Big fan of Tiny Showcase

I love this print by Caroline Hwang and it just went up for sale at Tiny Showcase. Not only is it a mere $20 (even I can afford that), but also the proceeds go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, helping to save boobies everywhere. Read More

i like it dirty

One of my favorite parts of BUST has always been Ayun Halliday's Mother Superior column. Many years ago my fandom propelled me to hunt down back issues of her zine, East Village Inky , and burn through her books No Touch Monkey and Job Hopper. For some reason I'd never gotten a copy of Dirty Sugar Cookies until now and the timing couldn't be more perfect. I've always loved to eat but recently my obsession with food has reached epic proportions. Not only is DSC full of Ayun's typically hilarious culinary memories and misadventures, but also each chapter ends with a related recipe. Read More

Cute Band Alert

BY Lisa in General

My brother is pretty awesome and always tips me off to rad bands way before I ever would've heard about them. This weekend he dished the goods: Dreamdate is a two-gal-one-guy trio from Oakland, California and I can't stop listening to the tracks on their MySpace page. Luckily there's six of em up so I haven't memorized all the words. Yet. It's sweet-dreams indie pop at its finest, lo-fi love songs that remind me of The Aislers Set (one of my fave bands of the early 00s), and the Raincoats, the perfect makings for an end-of-summer road trip soundtrack.
