At any given moment, there are at least a dozen fashion displays and exhibits going on around the world. Most recently, I saw the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit at The Met and had no hesitation about considering it art, but I did start to wonder, “When does fashion become art” and “What exactly is the criteria?” Yesterday The New York Times published an article “Gone Global: Fashion as Art?” by Suzy Menkes, which I thought brought up some interesting points about how a museum decides to choose a designer for certain exhibits. I'd seen a few Missed Connection images before via tumblr, but my friend sent me the blog last night and I knew it should be Blog of the Week! Missed Connections is an illustration blog by Sophie Blackall, which takes inspiration from the missed connections of others and creates something whimsical from them. The images are ridiculously adorable and the sentiment behind them ranges from sweet and heart-warming to fascinating or strange. Read More
A few photos from 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld's new Fall 2011 Miu Miu campaign have emerged and while Miu Miu is one of my favorite brands and I think Hailee looks adorable in their clothes, the photo above kind of freaks me out in the same way Elle Fanning becoming "fashion's latest muse" at 13 years old freaks me out.
I think Hailee above and Elle Fanning in Marie Claire posted below look amazing and I admit, I love the photos. I feel like this brings up a lot of questions for me though. Read More
Summer is officially is full swing and while I might be lacking in funds to buy all the pretty, summery things I love, I decided to make a “Summer Wishlist” of fashionable items that add some summer fun to ensembles lacking the colorful tights and cardigans of autumn and spring. I'm a total Fall girl who loves to layer, but getting creative with colors, prints, and accessories is what I love best about summer. I hope you enjoy peeking into my online inspiration. These are a few of my favorite things right now. Read More
While Mad Men won't be back till early 2012, if you're missing the fabulous style created by costume designer, Janie Bryant, fear not, you can still get a dose of it come August when her 65-piece collaboration with Banana Republic's creative director, Simon Kneen, emerges. Check out some of the looks below and my thoughts on some of the pieces.
I'm definitely digging the men's wear, I'm a sucker for a bow tie or sweater vest, but I'm not totally sold on the women's wear. I see the inspiration, but I definitely see more Banana Republic than "Mad Men. Read More
From art to photography, this fellow Kristina with a K, of KrisAtomic, is one talented lady! Her prints are beyond adorable and the only reason I've never bought one is because I can never decide on just one. Check out some of her awesome prints and paintings to buy here in her online shop. I think my favorites at the moment are the Miu Miu shoe and Catgirl Painting. Her blog itself is full of gorgeous photographs, clothing inspirations, and various things she's into at the moment. So I'm the worst at riding a bike. I know..seems so simple, but I wobble and shake and I'm ashamed to admit I cried when trying to get over various hills in flats that kept slipping off. I don't like fast rides, the out-of-controlness freaks me out, so the idea of fastness on a bike, maybe crashing or falling always scared me. Believe me, I know what a wuss I am, but this video gives me inspiration! My ex-boyfriend, an avid and frequent biker, recently sent this to me. Read More
I’ve recently come across two online sources that take issue with what is basically the infantization of women and women’s media. There’s The Daily Beast’s “OMG! Women's Sites Need to Grow Up” by Tricia Romano and there’s a blog post by Julie Klausner.
Both Jane Pratt’s highly anticipated site, xoJane.com, and Zooey Deschanel’s new collaborative site, HelloGiggles, are aimed at young women ages 16-35. Read More
I mentioned photographer Jamie Beck previously when I blogged about her fantastic CoCo Rocha cinemgraphs, but I didn't really get to talk about Jamie's photography blog itself, From Me To You. The photos are stunning and you really get a glimpse inside the world as she see it. My absolute favorite part though are her gorgeous inspiration shoots. She doesn't do outfit posts too often, but when she does, they are extra special. Under the "Daily Outfits" link on the side of her blog is the collection of inspired looks she's created. Read More
Forever21 always kind of irked me for a variety of reasons: the sizes are strange and ill-fitting, they pretty much blatantly knock off designers, and their bags have random bible verses on them, which can seem a bit pushy in my opinion. Now let's add one more reason to the mix..they can't take a joke! WTForever 21 (while it's still up) is a blog run by Rachel Kane whose purpose is to hilariously and endearingly poke fun at the franchise's more ridiculous items of clothing. Forever21 is now threatening to sue Kane over the website. Read More
