The other night I watched the 1999 rave-culture flick Go, featuring Sarah Polley and Katie Holmes.  In it, a group of 90’s slackers and their crazy Christmas Eve party. There’s car chases, drug deals gone bad, angry strippers, and a lot of dated fashion (modrobes anyone?). What really fascinated me, though, was not the penchant for goggles but the lack of cell phones and texting. People go missing for hours and their friends just have to wait around or do something else if they don’t show up. Read More

Jake Quagliaroli, a 34 year old man from Indiana, was visiting PT's Showclub when the fun-filled night took a high-speed turn. According to his attorney, Syed Ali Saeed, Quagliaroli was hit in the face by a heavy bottomed shoe when an exotic dancer's "high kick maneuver" went very wrong. The impact resulted in four chipped teeth. As Saeed stated, "It was not a situation where it was a light tap on the face. It hit him with quite a bit of force. You can imagine the velocity at which the shoe must have come out when it hit him in the face. Read More

Atlanta grime-rock masters, The Black Lips, announced a month of additional dates to their already packed North American tour in support of their forthcoming album. The album is produced by Amy Winehouse hit maker Mark Ronson, a far cry from the directly to tape analog recordings of their 2007 album, Good Bad Not Evil. As the Vice blog noted, it's "the most anticipated collaboration since Sid and Nancy." Infamous for puking on stage, the Black Lips are giving you two months worth of shows. Plenty of time to wow you with their heavy jams and gross you out with their bodily fluids. Read More
"Who is opening for Interpol?" I think I heard that 10 times while waiting for the School of Seven Bells / Interpol show @ Radio City Music Hall to begin on Thursday night. These days my statuesque gods in 3-piece suits tend to draw the Burning Man mob. (Remember Kelly'sreview?) So, of course I smelled skunk weed. And the dude who sat next to me played air drums during their entire set. But the real heartbreaker? Some of these people were unfamiliar with School of Seven Bells. “Who are they? Never heard of ‘em.” Really? I feel sorry for these cave dwellers. Read More
